FirstSpear STT Plate Carrier Base, SKD Exclusive

Combine the technological advances of First Spear and the marketing gonads of SKD in a dirty, backseat tryst, and the only thing that could gestate is a ground-breakingly evil product like the First Spear STT (Six-Twelve-Tubes) Plate Carrier.

The First Spear STT PC was created in conjunction with and exclusively for SKD, and offers 6/12(TM) and Tubes (TM) technology in a sub $200 Plate Carrier for the first time. What the market has been missing for years (since the likes of the Eagle Plate Carrier with Cummerbund) has been a full-featured plate carrier from a top tier brand in the sub-$200 category. With the First Spear STT Plate Carrier, you not only get all the traditional features in an all-molle front, back and cummerbund, but you get the bleeding-edge technologies of 6/12 (TM) and Tubes (TM) for a lightweight Molle interface, sex-pot good looks, and the fastest don and doff in the industry- all in a package that weighs a scant 1.6 lbs.

The plate pockets are sized to handle most shooters cut 10" x 12" commercial armor plates, as well as Medium ESAPI/Ceradyne plates (L or XL ESAPI will NOT fit). The bottom flap pushes the plate to the top of the pocket to keep your armor in its proper place over your upper thoracic region. Exclusive to this SKD-spec STT Plate Carrier is the integration of loop velcro strips on the front and back carriers for option of adding PIG AFC Pontoons for increased air flow and padded goodness.

We are offering 3 different cummerbund sizes to maximize fit. Measure your chest around the widest part (usually at nipple height) and it should correspond with your jacket size if you know it. Compare that measurement with the sizes below to select your cummerbund.

S/M: 38"-44" (can hold 6" x 9" soft armor )
M/L: 42"-48" (can hold 6" x 9" soft armor)
L/XL: 48"-52" (can hold soft armor up to 6" x 12" wide)

If you are in between 2 sizes we recommend trying the smaller of the two sizes first. These sizing suggestions are general guidelines. There are multiple variables in play that make fitting armor an imperfect process at best but this will put most people into the size they need to be.

The M/L and L/XL cummerbunds have elastic for up to 2" of additional stretch. The thickness of your plates and whether you are running any soft armor will also affect the sizing and fit. Adding PIG AFC Pontoons will reduce the size and fit considerably.

As you can probably tell, we're pumped up to offer the STT Plate Carrier exclusively and hope you feel the same way!

As with all First Spear tactical nylon gear, the STT PC is proudly Made in USA!

    STT Carrier

Posted by Unknown on 7th Dec 2015

I'm 5'8", 180 lbs, used to wearing a small Eagle SPC. Bad: Shoulder straps sit far outboard; can almost slip over my shoulder. Tubes attachments on shoulder straps sit exactly where stock of my rifle usually sits, digging plastic into chest and preventing me from getting into good position. The cummerbund can't be adjusted without taking carrier off and moving velcro points in back, so if you're high metabolism guy who gains/loses 5 pounds between field and garrison, or just someone who wears warming layers under their armor, it's a bad setup. Keep in mind I was using small c-bun that lacks elastic that the medium and large ones have, but you still won't get adjustment that you would from a PC that velcros in the front. Good: Fit my 10x12 swimmer plates like a glove. Build quality nice. High attention to detail. Very, very light weight. Basically, if you're skinny, short, or have narrow shoulders, don't get this. Should work great for others. I'm going to try Mayflower APC.

    Great buy for the price.

This is extremely light compared to the vest I was wearing. Not as much molle real estate if you're used to that, it will cause you to slim down. I would size up on the cummerbund if you're going to run esapi plates and the pontoons. I am having an issue running medium soft armor and medium plate in the front. It's a tight fit and will only get about a half inch of velcro to secure it, almost seems it's the stitching as the back fits with no issues. A minor issue though, I'll either run a smaller plate or ditch the soft armor in the front. The vest itself is quality. The 6/12 cuts are strong and the tubes are much better than velcro. Putting it on in a hurry will be much less hassle than my last one.

Bad shoulder straps for small guys

Overall the plate carrier is great.... unfortunately the top tubes system digs into your shoulder when taking an aggressive stance with rifle. this could be because i have narrow shoulders. I wish it had the dimensions of a mayflower apc. If you are a smaller person i do not recommend this carrier.

    STT Plate Carrier

Hi gang, I have been using this for about a week on the job and I am very happy with it. It is very comfortable and does not restrict, or interfere with firing stance/rifle stock placement. It holds the plates up high protecting that important heart/lung area! It has room to hold my polyethylene stand alone rifle plates, which are mighty thick compared to the ceramic ones. And it is easy on and off with the tubes. Great job again SKD. I highly recommend this one!

    Great BANG!!! for you buck

This plate carrier is the best the market has to offer, at a great price and gets the job done period. The carrier is ultra light weight, without plates. The don and doff is so easy their is no instructions required, idiot proof. The molle system IS different and just takes very few brain cells to figure out. Over all, THIS IS IT!!! Get yourself sum.

Comfortable lightweight plate carrier. Not bulky in the shoulder pocket. Wish the small cumberbun had some elasticity to it, and a Velcro strip on the upper chest would be better.

    Superb $200-class PC

Posted by John on 7th Oct 2015

Excellent build quality - what is expected from FirstSpear. Lightweight, essentially low-profile, and sturdy. I contacted SKD about shoulder pads and they recommended the PIG BRIG shoulder pad set. They fit perfectly. Very happy with this piece of kit. Going to use it mainly for training with plates and as an ammo caddy for some south Texas helicopter hog-hunting. WHOOP!

    Tube Failed

Posted by Unknown on 7th Oct 2015

I really like the price point of this carrier, the lighter weight features and ability to scale down/up as needed. Having purchased both SKD and First Spear stuff in the past, I thought the fit/function and quality would be above average. After wearing it for training and work for a couple of months, the tube on the shoulder began to become very difficult to remove. While attempting to remove the carrier, I pulled on the tube's pull cord and it snapped. No biggie. I figured SKD would stand behind their product, and they did. Side note, the PC never seemed to ride right on me, the back plate rode too low, even after adjusting shoulder straps. Once outfitted with pontoons and shoulder pads it was very comfortable. Too bad it didn't work out. Not buying same product.
