SureFire EarPro EP3 Sonic Defenders

EP3 Sonic Defenders were named the 2011 Safety Product of the Year at the 20th Annual Shooting Industry Awards.

Surefire EP3 Sonic Defenders protect your hearing without interfering with your ability to hear routine sounds or conversations. Their double-flange stem design fits most people and provides a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 24dB. Sounds, at safe levels, are allowed to pass through into the ear canal, while potentially harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced via a proprietary design that incorporates the patented Hocks Noise Braker® filter. EP3s include attached stopper plugs, which can be inserted for further protection, and they also block out lower-level noise like that heard on a plane.

They can be used in situations where hearing ambient sounds or conversations isn't critical. The right/left color-coded Sonic Defenders are made from a soft but durable, hypoallergenic polymer and are ergonomically shaped, with an adjustable-stem design, providing a secure fit, all-day comfort, and extended product life (3 to 6+ months, depending on usage and care). And their low-profile design means they can be worn while wearing a helmet or mask, or while using a phone or headset. Each set is packaged in a convenient carry case. Available in clear.

*EP3 Sonic Defenders are sold as a single left/right set or in a box containing 25 sets. Each set is packaged in a convenient carry case.

*All sizes of EP3s have identical flanged ear canal stems—that is, the portion that fits in the ear canal.

*The sizes—small, medium, and large—refer only to the outer earpieces that fit in the ear's concha bowl and help hold the EP3 in place. Proper EP3 size is based on the dimensions of your ear's concha bowl. Medium fits most people.

*For those with larger ear canals, the EP4's three-flange stem may provide a better fit than the EP3's two-flange stem. [NSN: 6515-01-549-6448, 6515-01-549-6453, 6515-01-549-6457]

    Great for my Tinnitus

Posted by Zac Waterman on 1st Jan 2015

I have mild ringing in my ears so ear protection that blocks out all sound drives me crazy. I have electronic ear muffs but they are bulky and make me sweat. I decided to try these and use them with the plugs out and just hope the filter would keep my ears working but not annoy the S*** out of me. And that's exactly what they do. It lowers the volume of everything but once I stop shooting I can hear everything. I want to stress its not muffled for me, its like turning down the radio. Its still clear. They fit perfect in my ears and I don't even feel them when I'm shooting. I will buy these until the day I die. Also, thanks to SKD, I got them in time for the range this weekend! Great product, and another great experience from SKD! My go to "guy" online!

Got the Med. size. They fit perfectly and are comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

don't seem as effective as the basic puffy orange ones, seem to fit loose in one ear. that may be me though.

Haven't had a chance to see how they do at the range, but they pass the clap test. They fit really well but am disappointed to find out they have a product life of 3 to 6 plus months depending on usage and care.

Nice little earplugs. I use them at my firehouse and they're great at cutting noise down.

    Was Skeptical...

Posted by Chris on 12th Feb 2014

I have to admit, these seemed to good to be true while reading the description. Having worked in commercial construction for years I have grown tired of pulling out disposable foam ear plugs for 2 minutes to hear somebody talk, only to have scrunch the set back down and reinsert. I went searching for something cost effective as a an alternative. After using these for 2 weeks now I can say they are awe...some! I leave them in until coffee break, put them back in until lunch, and take them out to go home. I forget they are there in between. I hear people talk but don't feel irritated by excessive noise made by tractors, skill saws, shouting etc...
