SureFire EarPro EP3 Sonic Defenders

EP3 Sonic Defenders were named the 2011 Safety Product of the Year at the 20th Annual Shooting Industry Awards.

Surefire EP3 Sonic Defenders protect your hearing without interfering with your ability to hear routine sounds or conversations. Their double-flange stem design fits most people and provides a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 24dB. Sounds, at safe levels, are allowed to pass through into the ear canal, while potentially harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced via a proprietary design that incorporates the patented Hocks Noise Braker® filter. EP3s include attached stopper plugs, which can be inserted for further protection, and they also block out lower-level noise like that heard on a plane.

They can be used in situations where hearing ambient sounds or conversations isn't critical. The right/left color-coded Sonic Defenders are made from a soft but durable, hypoallergenic polymer and are ergonomically shaped, with an adjustable-stem design, providing a secure fit, all-day comfort, and extended product life (3 to 6+ months, depending on usage and care). And their low-profile design means they can be worn while wearing a helmet or mask, or while using a phone or headset. Each set is packaged in a convenient carry case. Available in clear.

*EP3 Sonic Defenders are sold as a single left/right set or in a box containing 25 sets. Each set is packaged in a convenient carry case.

*All sizes of EP3s have identical flanged ear canal stems—that is, the portion that fits in the ear canal.

*The sizes—small, medium, and large—refer only to the outer earpieces that fit in the ear's concha bowl and help hold the EP3 in place. Proper EP3 size is based on the dimensions of your ear's concha bowl. Medium fits most people.

*For those with larger ear canals, the EP4's three-flange stem may provide a better fit than the EP3's two-flange stem. [NSN: 6515-01-549-6448, 6515-01-549-6453, 6515-01-549-6457]

    Comfortable

Posted by Vanilla Face Actual on 2nd Mar 2013

These are very comfy, but I haven't had a chance to try them at the range yet, so 4 stars. I have always had issues with ear buds like iPod buds coming out of my ears, but the mediums seem to stay put.

    Quality

Great earplugs. I was very happy to be able to conduct training, and hear other people around me. It was great not to have to shout. It fits to the ear great.

    Comfy

These are very comfortable. I shot with them in for an entire day and my ears were not hurting me at all. Also I could hear well when someone was talking near me but it still did a good job with the gun shots. For high powered rifles would defiantly recommend muffs over these though.

    GOOD BUT NOT GREAT

Posted by DARRIN M on 12th Mar 2012

They fit nice in your ears but even with plug caps in they dont seem to reduce the sound too much. They are comfortable, But i would like a little more noise reduction. They work but be ready to hear a bang when you shoot.

    Great Product

This product is an excellent addition to any range bag. I use them exclusively with no problems. My hearing is protected, they are comfortable, and I am able to stil have a normal conversation with people on the firing line.

    Good for radios

Posted by Sesome on 1st Nov 2011

The Sonic Defenders work really well with out radios at work. The offer just enough hearing protection and when you take the stopper out they fit the discreet earbud. They are a lot more comfortable than the stock white earbud that comes with the discreet earpiece and they will not get stuck in your ear canal!

    SureFire EarPro EP3 Sonic Defenders

Posted by CW on 24th Jun 2010

The SureFire EarPro EP3 Sonic Defenders are handy to have with you just in case, but I've found that they are no match for electronic hearing protection. There is not a great enough decible reduction for comfortable use with long guns, even in an open area. I also found that they can cause pain in the inner ear if worn for too long and they also can get really nasty/dirty.
