Esstac Shingle Mag Pouch with KYWI - I like that these mag pouches bridge the gap between hard plastic and soft/ cloth mag pouches. The retention is perfect. I prefer open top mag pouches to any other type because when you need more ammo you REALLY need more ammo. The Esstac KYWI (Kydex Wedge Insert) allows you to have the option of swapping out all your existing Esstac bungee retention inserts with a quick open topped friction retention design, or swap out just a few for quicker access while leaving the rest of the mags with the added security of the bungee topped inserts. Magazines in the Kydex have enough compression against them to hold the magazines in place even when the pouch is upside down yet with a quick pull on the magazine they release for speedy deployment.
The spring loaded nature of these Kydex inserts keep the mouth of the Magazine pocket fully open for ease of magazine reinsertion yet hold the mags tight under compression. The apex of the KYWI that contacts the magazine sits above the Mag catch bump when the magazine is in place, so the mags "click" into place.
They are compatible with Pmags, USGI, Orilite, Thermold and Lancer magazines as well as most other 5.56 AR-15/M4/M16 type magazines. Aluminum and steel magazines may need sharp edges chamfered to alleviate excessive wear to the Kydex.

Fills the gap
These inserts are great!!! They bridge the gap from kydex mag holders for the 3gun game and velcro flapped or bungee military style pouches. you gain concealment in whatever nylon pouch you have and retention while giving your fighting rig the speed of kydex opentop mag holders. In short blazing speed on the reload and rock solid retention. Buy em, run em, never look back!

Outstanding Product!
I purchased three of these to fit in my Esstac tri-mag pouches. Makes it a breeze for a speedy rapid reload. Not only are they pratical they are durable after a three day shooting trial full of running, rolling, diving, sliding, sprawling out prone, and almost every other crazy movement one can think of. My inserts remained in prime working condition. A must have for the practical and tactical shooter. Almost all my fellow co-workers have purchased some after seeing them in action.

My mag pouches were the last part of my rig and I saw these inserts on AR15.com. These are PERFECT for open top mag pouches. Highly recommend.

Nice Product
Like the ones before me said, this is a nice product. I have 8 of them stuffed into a Blackhawk Commando chest rig, and they retain my issued mags like a gem. They are definitely a nice commodity.

Works as advertised.
I ordered these to use on my rack system. I have integrated mag pouches on my Tactical Assault Gear's Marine Gladiator Chest Rig. I removed the bungie cords and replaced them with the KYWI inserts. I did have to fold up some cardboard to take some of the slack out of the pouch. (The pouches can actually hold two 5.56 mags). I have to admit, this simple device works exactly as described, It firmly holds the magazines and I don't have to worry about bungie cords getting in the way of a quick reload under stress. Top rated product.

These make speed reloads and tac-reloads a cinch. Retention seems pretty good too, although I have not extensively tested these out yet. Overall would recommend for use on your esstac rig.

Esstac 556 KYWI
I have been using these in my Esstac Boar for about 3 month, to be honest I'm not sure how I ever lived without them. They hold pmags tightly, USGI mags even better. I have run pmags with springer precision couplers and they even hold them in when upside down, I love these inserts.

Works great
I bought these for use in my Tactical Tailor Shingles and they work great! I just added som "sticky back" loop velcro to the inside of the shingle and attached the KYWI inside the shingle. Good, firm grip on the mags yet releases nicely when pulled.
