PIG Plate Carrier (US Pat. Nos. 9,222,757 & D781,000)
by Sean
PIG Plate Carrier - The PIG Plate Carrier is the most versatile PC I have ever worn. The LIK Kit is a huge plus for limiting the amount of straps hanging off of my body armor. Having the ability to change the attachment points for the Double D ring (I love saying that) to fastex is great for my weak side. I can still ditch it quickly on one side but don't have anything that interferes with my my rifle stock on my firing side. The super small profile of the PIG rig is amazing. i no longer feel like the state puff marshmallow man in my Armor. I was a little worried when i first put it on that it wasn't giving me enough coverage. Then I realized MY ESAPI plate was in it.... made me realize how poorly I had covered my vital organs in the past. The high riding PIG PC keeps my thoracic area covered better than any other PC I have ever worn and I have a full range of motion. The way I see it, I'll survive a gut shot more than likely (although the pain may make me want to die) but my chances of surviving a collapse lung due to trauma are slim.
The Patrol Incident Gear Plate Carrier (PIG PC) is a Patented (US Pat. Nos. 9,222,757 & D781,000) design that was over two years in the making. Starting off as a modified Eagle Plate Carrier Pre-production model in 2007, we threw out the drawing board altogether and performed a complete ground-up metamorphosis based directly on a list of functional attributes we wanted to feature. The result is the most versatile, and most highly-rated plate carrier on the market. The PIG PC is a lightweight plate carrier system that allows the user to configure the kit to work optimally with their mission profile. It is proudly Made in the USA, and offers some of the most unique features available on a plate carrier today.
Approx. weight (w/ Molle Cummerbund): 2 lbs 11 oz
- Elevated Plate Profile - Most plate carriers on the market tend to carry the plate extremely low in relation to the most vital organs and vessels in the upper-thoracic region they are meant to protect. One of the main goals of this carrier was to get both front and back plates high enough to maximize protection of your vitals. An adjustable plate harness pushes each plate to the top of the plate pocket, and keeps plates centered left and right through internal velcro stabilizers. The PIG PC also places the top of the rear plate ABOVE the connection point to the shoulder straps. This allows both front and rear plates to be optimally positioned without sacrificing comfort.
- One Size Fits Most – The adjustable plate harness and the internal Velcro stabilizers allow the wearer to use any size SAPI/ESAPI plate from Small through Extra Large (or similar corner cut plates) without having the plates bottom out or swim around in the carrier. The PIG is the only plate carrier that can secure this wide range of plate sizes while maintaining such a low footprint on the wearer.
- Rear Padding System - The rear plate carrier features two vertical back pads that keep contact off of your spine and creates an air-flow channel to aid in increased ventilation and heat dissipation. These vertical pads flow into the integral padded shoulder straps, creating a continuous shock-absorbing feature that is extremely comfortable for extended use.
- Hybrid Construction - Utilizes 500 Denier Cordura and lightweight Pack Nylon in different areas according to abrasion exposure to minimize weight.
- Multiple Cummerbund Options - Now you can get all the features you want, or just those you need with regards to the cummerbund. With 2 cummerbund options and 3 side plate carrier options, you have multiple configurations to select from.
- Scalable Side Plate Pocket Options - Now you can use 6"x 6" side plates as well as 6"x 8" & 7" x 8" models with the extended retention strap feature on both of our Side Plate Carrier models. The elastic expansion capability allows you to run just a side plate, or both a side plate and a soft armor backer behind it with no slop or movement in the pouch. The PIG Modular Side Plate Carrier (MSPC) adds the most versatility, securing most any size side plate with or without soft armor backer to any Molle surface.
- Dedicated Plate-backer Pockets - Each PIG PC ships with a custom cut foam panel that sits inside a dedicated pocket to increase comfort for the wearer. You can access and replace this panel with a soft armor insert without having to touch your plates and visa-versa. This makes plus-ing up or scaling down a much simpler operation.
- G-Hook Applications - The PIG PC is the first production Plate Carrier to utilize ITW G-Hook, easily one of the most versatile pieces of hardware available to the tactical market today. Used in the primary shoulder strap attachment, it allows the user to replace hardware in the field and select between a side release buckle or a metal D-ring assembly. The PIG PC Load Integration Kit also uses G-Hooks to seamlessly integrate the popular Eagle Yote pack to the PIG PC.
- Semi-Rigid Drag Handle - The tubular nylon drag handle houses a length of plastic tubing to increase surface area and comfort when gripping.
- Split Cummerbund Retention Flaps - By splitting the cummerbund flaps, the user is able to keep one side attached at all times through repeated don/doff cycles. The flaps' outer corners are retained by snap tabs that come up from underneath to keep the corner retained. Each flap includes a kangaroo pouch for hasty item storage or integration of dedicated flap pouches.
- Front & Back Velcro PALS - Now you don't have to settle for either just a velcro panel, or PALS without velcro. Both front and back plate compartments have velcro-covered PALS webbing that lets the user configure the Plate Carrier with ID patches or modular pouches as necessary.
To order a functional PIG-PC system, at a minimum you must select 1 x PIG PC Chassis and 1 x PIG PC Cummerbund. This Ala Carte system allows the user to custom configure their carrier for their specific mission straight from the vendor.
Want a Low-Profile High Mobility configuration with slick sides? Select the PIG PC Chassis with PIG-PC-CBE (Elastic Cummerbund). This is easily the most comfortable and adjustable combination.
Want to maximize load capability and run with side plates? Choose the PIG-PC Chassis with PIG Plate Carrier Molle Cummerbund (previously named: Soft Armor Compatible Molle Cummerbund) and PIG-PC-SPC-CBM (Side Plate Carrier, Molle Cummerbund). Want Cummerbund Soft Armor inserts and the Side plate in front of the soft armor? Select the PIG Cummerbund Soft Armor Inserts and the MSPC.
Options are as follows:
- PIG-PC-CBE / Elastic Cummerbund - A simple 4" wide elastic cummerbund attaches via velcro to the rear cummerbund channel on the PIG-PC Chassis. When configured, user should affix the cummerbund on the bottom-most 4 inches of the rear cummerbund channel, and correspondingly secure the front of the cummerbund at the bottom-most 4 inches under the front cummerbund flaps.
- PIG Molle Cummerbund (previously named Soft Armor Compatible Cummerbund)- Offering 10 columns and 3 rows of PALS webbing on each side, this cummerbund allows for a host of modular mounting options. Adjustments to the shock cord can be made through an adjustment slot in the rear cummerbund channel of the PIG-PC Chassis. The offset paracord pull handles aide in removal when doffing. The inside of the cummerbund is lined with loop velcro to incorporate the PIG-PC-SPC-CBM (Side Plate Carrier, Molle Cummerbund) with a webbing loop for a retention tether. *This item can be used with the Eagle Molle Plate Carrier with Cummerbund.*
- PIG Elastic Cummerbund Sleeve - Instantly provides you with 6 columns and 4 adjacent rows of Molle to increase your load bearing capability. The Elastic Cummerbund Side Plate Carrier: allows you to carry any side plate from 6" x 6", 6" x 8" and 7" x 8". The Elastic Cummerbund Molle Sleeve w/ Side Plate Carrier: combines the features of both of the previous systems into one product.
- PIG-PC-SPC-CBM / Side Plate Carrier for Molle Cummerbund - This velcro pouch offers the user a side plate capability for the PIG-PC-CBM. Due to the large velcro engagement area inside the cummerbund, the user has a host of placement options, fore and aft, as well as by turning the orientation of the pouch. The pouch will hold 6"x 6" side plates as well as 6"x 8" & 7" x 8" with the retention strap oriented up or down. The cord supplied with each PIG-PC-SPC-CBM is for a tether to be tied through the grommet on the cummerbund for additional retention in extreme environments.
- PIG-MSPC / Modular Side Plate Carrier- When running Soft Armor in the Cummerbund, it is important to keep the Side Plate in front of the soft armor. The MSPC allows the wearer to do just that. Utilizing Malice clips, the MSPC attaches to the PIG Molle Cummerbund and any other Molle interface.
- PIG-PC-LIK / Load Integration Kit - Utilizing the innovative G-Hook from ITW, this kit includes all the necessary hardware to allow for the seamless integration of load and/or hydration systems such as the popular Eagle YOTE.
- PIG-PC-GH-SRB / G-Hook Side Release Buckle Kit (2) - Each PIG-PC-Chassis includes this item as a primary attachment for front and back plate carriers. This kit provides 2 additional assemblies to use as field replacements, or to attach additional accessories to the array of G-Hook anchors on the PIG-PC padded shoulder straps.
- PIG-PC-GH-DD / G-Hook Double D-Ring Kit (2) - This double ring assembly allows the user to replace a G-Hook Side Release Buckle assembly on the PIG-PC Chassis to allow for a reduced profile, and very quick strap adjustment.

PIG PC/PIG Cummerbund/ Customer Service
I have to wear it over an issued 2nd chance vest. Even being over the vest it has been the most comfortable rig that I have worn, allowing for greater mobility keeping the rig high and off the hips as well as offering better protection with high plate placement. I would highly recommend the PIG PC after using others such as: RBAV, CIRAS, ITV. I rigged the cummerbund to an RBAV in Afghan so I could put my side sapi's in the right place. It is very comfortable and easy to rig to be quick release on the rbav or ciras. One problem was sagging with heavy loads, a 1/8" piece of abs that goes into the soft armor area fixes that. My cummerbund was loaded up with a 152, pvs 14, 1 30rd pmag and 1 tourniquete on 1 side and 2 smog grenades, 1 frag and a tourniquete on the other side. The elastic wore out, but with the awesome service at SKD they are replacing it for me. Thank you SKD for making my deployment more comfortable, thanks Dwayne for taking care of my cummerbund replacement.

PIG Plate Carrier
Best piece of equipment I've ever owned. Hands down one of the best plate carriers. Worth every penny.

Simply Spectacular
The PIG is exactly what everyone needs. The fit of this rig is top notch. I'm a big guy (50" chest) so I was worried that it wouldn't fit well. I went with the soft armor compatible molle cumberbund and was able to get the fit right with very little adjustment. Also, the build quality is the best I've seen. It feels light and is pillow soft compared to other PCs. The split front flap, G-Hook system, and side release shoulder buckles are all genius ideas that were executed perfectly. I'm so happy that I chose this rig. It is worth every single penny. On top of that, SKD offers excellent customer service. They're a joy to purchase from and have earned a customer for life. Tim answered my many of emails quickly and was able to provide tons of insight. The shipping was extremely fast and only $5. You can't beat that. I can't wait to get my MSPCs, PIG Hydration Pack, and anything else they come out with for this very modular system.

Badass x2
Comfortable, sturdy, sexy, practical, lightweight, sexy, ....perfect. It sits high so you dont feel like your magazines are on your stomach, a feature I didnt realize was so important until i wore it. It held up well while running with it (I ran down a public beach with it shortly before being detained by city police, who later expressed regret for arresting a SKD customer and ultimately let me go). The PC abuses its competition, so much that a tactical course I took turned into a scene out of Pretty Woman when every guy there wanted to try my shit on. I'm sure you've read enough reviews on it already, buy it and stop wasting time.

The best all around
only con is the price once you add the molle side plate carriers the g hook d rings and the soft armor. But "you get what you pay for"! Yes there are a lot of good PC's around but this is THE ONE! This sits high enough to cover vitals and allow me to access my brokos belt by Viking tactics. I'm all about practical comfortable and functional kits. Far from a gear queer but a fan of common sense.

built with the user in mind.
What an awesome piece of kit. Im currently using my large plates in it with no soft armor. Im able to move with more ease and my kit tight enough not to be shifting on me and causing undue strain on my back while running and gunning. I can access my battle belt(viking tactics) with ease. Granted in comparison to my RBAV(BAE) this is the way to go. A little pricey once you add the side plate carriers for MOLLE and the D-ring mounts on the shoulder and the soft armor. Comfort(X) Functional(X)

Awesome gear; should be Govt. Issue!
I can't say enough about the P.I.G., simply put this is an awesome piece of kit! Many references have been made on the placing of the SAPI plates in this PC and I have to echo the sentiment. The coverage is perfect for those critical areas that the operator must protect. Additionally the fit is so snug that it hardly feels like you are wearing Ballistic protection at all! The bonus comes in the unique airflow channel located on the rear of the PC. I can not stress enough how great it feels to get that blast of cooler air (currently in Iraq) while riding in the back of a vehicle or dismounted. All in all do not let the price tag deter you; Your safety (and comfort) should not be taken lightly. I highly recommend the P.I.G.!

IT'S A FERRARI YOU CAN WEAR
If you learn nothing else about the PIG, know this: It protects your high center mass vitals and you can really move and shoot in it; two things 90% of the other plate carriers on the market just can’t get right. I’ve been wearing body armor since 2003 and the PIG plate carrier is by far the most comfortable and adaptable piece of plate-toting personal protection equipment I’ve come across in the last decade. Having wrapped my guts in everything from the USGI Point Blank IBA to the Blackhawk STRIKE plate carrier to the Diamondback Tactical Predator and a variety of soft armor carriers, I’d say I’m qualified to judge the PIG plate carrier as nearly perfect. Where the heck was this thing ten years ago, guys? I’m 6’ with a 40” chest and I’m rocking Lvl 4 stand alone plates. Pros: You can move in it. The PIG PC has a super low profile, body-hugging precision fit. This thing is the Ferrari of armor carriers. The PIG is so light and tight that I hardly notice it when I’m running; there is barely any vertical bounce and it doesn’t feel like a midget is standing on my shoulders after wearing it for a few hours, even when loaded with mags and a water bladder carrier I still didn’t find myself doing the usual “shrug and lift” routine to relieve pressure points. This cannot be stressed enough. The PIG is comfortable and won’t wear you out the way other carriers do. The always-outta-my-way contoured shoulder straps, the rib-wrapping adjustable cummerbund, interior padding (especially the back channel) are amazing. The abbreviated shape and padded back channel also reduce the suck as far as heat retention, especially when compared to the encumbering “combat sweaters” produced by some companies today. The corner snaps on the cummerbund are a nice touch and keep the flaps anchored. The wearing-a-pillow feeling stays with you in vehicles and while wearing an assault pack, something that I've never felt before with any armor carrier. You can shoot in it. The contoured shoulder straps don’t interfere with the natural buttplate pocket but stay off your neck. There is only minimal interference from the plate pocket when shouldering a rifle; worlds better than 90% of the armor on the market that forces you to balance the buttplate on an unnecessarily bulky shoulder strap or the awkward too-far-out armor panel that messes up your cheek weld and shooting posture. The high-riding design allows you to put plenty of primary weapon mags on your chest while giving you ample clearance to run your 1st line gear (battle belt) underneath. The abbreviated shape and padded back channel allow you to get into (and stay in) modern tactical shooting positions that are incredibly awkward in other armor carriers (fetal prone, UBT prone, etc.) One piece of kit, many missions. You can make this whatever kind of creature you want, from super slick to wear under your man dress while you play daddy daycare to those CA weenies to Godzilla mode with 12 AR mags hanging off the front. The modular design allows you to trade cummerbunds and shoulder strap attachments, add-on g-hooks for an assault pack or water bladder carrier, side plate carriers—you name it. Cons: - Kangaroo pockets are completely unnecessary and add bulk / weaken the cummerbund flaps. Unless you’ve got the hands of a 12 year old Vietnamese boy, you’re not getting much in there and all they do is create another layer of Velcro to tug at when you’re trying to don/doff your PIG and mess around with the items on your center line, typically rifle magazines. SKD would do well to just ditch that feature in the future and keep the dual cummerbund flaps as flat and stiff as possible. If I need a place to put my tactical lip balm and the keys to the Hi-Lux, I’ve got some DCU pants pockets that work better. - Cummerbund elastic replacement. I use the MOLLE cummerbund and I noticed that the 3.5” V-shaped brown elastic stretch panels connected to the nylon 3-grommet girth adjustment. I feel it would have been better to create a field-replaceable girth adjustment by having the grommets on the two nylon MOLLE panels themselves and creating a semi-disposable elastic portion on the inside. Not a huge issue, but elastic items always have a shelf life, especially in extreme temps (as I've learned the hard way). I wouldn’t want to have the cummerbund fail on me and have to MacGyver myself something with 550 and zip ties unnecessarily. - Cummerbund pull cords are overkill. Instead of simple 1x2” flat nylon grab tab to pull when doffing, I have two huge grommets with an ungutted piece of 550 cord. Unnecessarily bulky. Feels sloppy. I removed both of them and replaced it with gutted 550 on the left side until I figure out how I want to modify it further. It certainly makes it easy to ditch the vest, but I figure there is a better way to go about this that doesn’t look like Joe rigged it up in the field. Overall? 5 out of 5. This is the plate carrier to own. If you're worried about cost or comfort, know that you will not find a better product for any amount of money.
