NOT SO CHECK.
In the precision rifle world, there are a lot of Rifle Rests that are full of promises, but at the end of the day, you have to ask yourself which ones will be with you to help you make the critical shot in the field. Now you can always count on one benchrest item being with you all the time- the Sniper Bean Bag from BALS.
The MK-2 Sniper Bean Bag from Ballistic Adjustment Leveling Systems, LLC. (BALS) is the answer to precision marksmen who want the functionality of a Rifle Rest, without the inconvenience and hassle of having to carry one and store it everywhere they go. The Patent Pending design allows for simple installation onto a wide variety of stocks with straight combs, including most factory Bolt Gun stocks, and stocks from Manners, Bell & Carlson, HS Precision and McMillan.
The rifle bean bag on the MK-2 is incorporated with the popular Stockmate Rifle Pack design from PIG, and it stores conveniently up against the rearmost part of the stock, and can be silently released for immediate usage. When deployed, the rifle bean bag can lay horizontally or vertically via a slider, to maximize the range of adjustment. At 100 yards, the standard bean bag (included) allows the shooter about 30' in elevation variation from the lowest (horizontal) to highest (vertical) arrangement.
Whether in storage or operational mode, the rifle bean bag does not interfere with the shooter's cheek weld, and it does not interfere with off-hand shooting. The location of the bag also serves as a perfect counterbalance to barrel heavy precision rifles.
The MK-2's Cheek Rest has 1 layer of integrated foam like the PIG Stockmate Rifle Pack for a comfortable shock isolating cheek weld. The Bean Bag can be removed or replaced. The standard BALS Bag supplied with Mk-1 & Mk-2 BALS units measures: 3" x 2" x 4" / Weight (approximate): 8 oz.
The following are the specifications for Enlarged BALS that may be ordered and installed:
Sizes:
- Med BALS Bag: 3.5" x 2.5" x 4.5" / Weight (approximate): 14 oz.
- Large BALS Bag: 4" x 3" x 5" / Weight (approximate): 19 oz.
- XL BALS Bag: 4" x 3" x 6" / Weight (approximate): 24 oz.
The MK-2 Sniper Bean Bag with Stock Pack is proudly made in the USA with the finest materials and manufacturing available. The rifle bean bags are filled with lightweight waterproof poly-fill, and constructed of 1000 Denier Cordura.
Whether you are on a dog hunt or using your rifle professionally, a Bean Bag or Rifle Rest can't help you if you forget to bring it, or can't set it up in time. We like to say that a Rifle Rest on the gun is worth ten on the bench.
The MK-2 will provide years of valuable service and finally give your rifle the one thing it really needs... BALS.

Super product
A very nice, solidly made shooting accessory made in the USA! Fits like a glove on my Remington 700 5R and lines my eye up with the scope perfectly. Zippered pouch is good for a boresnake and some allen wrenches. Now if they only made a larger one for my AR-50. Might try the MK-1.

Great Design & Very Well Made
I needed a higher comb for my Remington 700 XCR Tactical LR for a while as my Millett LRS-1 scope is relatively tall. At the same time, I've been thinking about a better way to manage the rear end of the stock while shooting. I first read about the BALS MK-2 on www.snipershide.com and decided to find out more. SKD was very responsive answering my questions so I ordered one. It arrived very quickly and I was immediately struck by the quality of construction. This is very well made. The fabric is heavy and the stitching is very sound. I like how the bag can be quickly swung into position and easily latched back in place. If you're looking for a cheekpiece and bag, I seriously do not think you will find anything remotely as good as this one.

Works for me
I have had the MK-2 on my CZ 550 laminated stock for well over a year. The adjustable velco straps allow you to both fit the stock and put the tabs where you want them. The bag works as advertised - that, combined with a bipod, makes for stable shooting to 1,000 yards or more (even my wife hit a gallon jug at 1,007 yards with this system). As others noted, the pouch is small, so I end up with a range card and a spare rangefinder battery in there, but, then again, a bigger pouch makes for a bulkier, heavier rifle, and a suppressed heavy barrel with good optics is no lightweight to begin with. I find the ammo loops to be handy as well. The only downside I have is that I have to remove the MK-2 to be able to remove the bolt on the CZ - easily done, but I am disinclined to use velcro more than necessary since it does wear out. Then again, cleaning just messes up your zero until you fire a few fouling rounds anyway.

Well made, very usefull
I agree with Peter from Newcastle...why didn't I think of this? Use it on my 30-30 rifle for deer hunting (from a box stand. Easy adjust just by squeeze/ release of the bag). Also use it for my Savage 110 FP in 30-06 on the range. It makes life a lot easier. Well made product.

Great Operational Gear
I'm a law enforcement sniper and have been using the BALS system for about a year now. It has been through two sniper schools and alot of training; needless to say I've run it through the gamut of drills and scenarios. I'm not very easy on my gear, at all, but it shows no sign of wear or tear. It has also been one of the greatest pieces of Kit for my rifle. I was always having to stow and retrieve a been bag in a rucksack when I needed it, and half the time I didn't have time to get it out and the other half of the time I couldn't find it. This keeps the bag ready when needed. Even if I'm moving from one position to the next and don't have time to sling it up in just hangs out under the stock and really isn't in the way of anything. Also the pouch is large enough to carry a bore snake, some oil, some alcohol swabs, and some small hex keys for quick weapon maintenance. I couldn't be happier with this piece of gear!

Awesome
This thing is great! It gives me better eye relief and the cheek material is grippy to prevent recoil from breaking your cheek weld, yet soft and comfortable. The best part about this item is the sack. It acts as a stable platform for the rear of the weapon and also a place to put your off hand. Simply grip is with your off hand and then squeeze or release to make small elevation adjustments on your target. The zippered pocket is good for small items. I keep a Leatherman and laser boresighter in mine in case I need to make scope adjustments. It's also big enough for folded dope card or other items. Obviously it holds rounds, as well. Great addition for the target, long-range shooter, or sniper who can't permanently attach a monopod to his stock or does not want to carry around full-size bags for stability.

A must have for a bolt gun.
This is by far one of my favorite pieces of gear that I have picked up over the years. I was used to packing a bean bag around for years and occasionally losing them or forgetting them all together. The attached bag solved the problem, its a good size and the ability to adjust it either vertically or horizontally allows you to make quick adjustments. I'd say the only drawback is the fact that I needed a new bag to carry the rifle because the stock pack/bean bag increased the stocks width.

BALS MK-2, Smart Gear
When it arrived I was immediately impressed. It appears well put together, but time and competition will verify this. In all positions it gave me a good cheek weld. It is nicely padded and has a nice covering that doesn't slip. The rear bag is excellent as well. Its weight ended up balancing my rifle perfectly, and the fill level is great too. There was enough for it to be stable, but not so much as to be overly rigid. The fact it could be stood on end or laid flat for added elevation adjustment was also nice. My only complaint is that there are only 4 ammo loops. There is easily room for one more without crowding. The BALS MK-2 is a perfect example of well executed, clever thinking that makes a big difference in the field. Having proper head position, storage, and a rear bag that is always there is extremely nice whether I am just out plinking, trying to grab every point possible at a big match, or anything in between. The BALS MK-2 is a winner.

Simply great!
I picked mine up before going to the Allegheny Sniper Challenge and for a couple of our 1k matches. The bag is big enough for what you need (dope card, small tools, etc.). The BALS work perfect, especially when it's specified that you can't use a separate rear bag that you're "limited" to what's mounted to your rifle. Seriously sweet setup that I have on my 3-Gun setup as well. If there's anything I can do to promote SKDTAC, you can count on me.
